these’s no substitute for taste…
Sublime and Ridiculous
Published on February 12, 2008 in uncategorized.
They opened a new Starbucks here on campus at DreamWorks yesterday. Yes, here. On campus.
I guess they decided that all the coffee break rooms and the two commercial espresso machines in the cafeteria just weren’t supplying enough caffeine to keep three movies rendering along at the same time.
It looks just like every other Starbucks, with funky chairs, glass pendant lamps, standard color scheme, and Louis Armstrong singing “What a Wonderful World” on the sound system. It’s a bit creepy and a lot disappointing how you can take something that once was a bunch of cubes and offices and, in a brief period of time, manufacture the exact same experience of a full blown coffeshop right down to its cozily familiar eclectic ambiance. Can all our experiences be distilled so easily?
Anyway, I can see the shop across the central fountain plaza from my office, and they’ve been doing booming business. I guess people are never too busy to pass up a venti skinny soy frappa mocha caramel gingerbread cino (with room).
Thanks Michael and here’s your link!
WELL, i suppose they’ll get in soon enough. i can feel the atmosphere from where I’m setting and as for Louis song being tuned out? he’s probably turning in his grave. A man with so much soul in a place with none!
I really don’t care how you do it, but if you’re even thinking of open your own cafe then “just do it” ( ha ha go Nike!) Use all the resources you can find, do your homework and get into the cafe scene, and forget about your neighbour over the road.
Honestly, the link to own your own cafe is just that, a link! there is no sure fire way to set up your own cafe, it does take grind, a bit of elbow grease, but the rewards of what you’ll bring to your cafe is phenomenal to say the least. check out some french cafe images on Google some time. now that’s what I’m talking about. All class! even my favourite spots in Italy, man you can just feel the family involvement in there, from one cafe to the next. So… my question is to you why can’t we have the same in the U.S. or anywhere for that matter.
Hey Thanks for your time
take care

Commercial Espresso Machines For Good Espresso Coffee
By: Dean Forster
If you look around hard enough you will notice that there are many different types of espresso machines including the stove top espresso machine that are found in many homes which suit travelers as well as tourists as well. The commercial espresso machines, on the other hand, are distinguished from other espresso machines in that they may have different features such as pumps and heat exchangers.
The Heat Exchanger Is Different
You can always tell which the home espresso machine is and which the commercial espresso machine is if you check out the heat exchanger. In fact, if you choose a semi-commercial espresso machine, you don’t even have to wait much time for the boiler to get warm enough after brewing of the espresso has begun. This is something that sets it apart from other espresso machines
Another notable feature of the commercial espresso machine is the pump which is a vibratory pump in the case of a semi-commercial espresso machine, and a rotary vane in the case of a fully commercial machine, which means that the commercial variant uses a larger as well as stronger and more powerful pump.
You will also find that certain commercial espresso machines do not have the same boiler for brewing water and preparing steam, which means you, will not need to switch from one brewing mode to another in such a machine. You will also find different commercial espresso machines including the pump driven espresso maker, and the automatic espresso machine.
You can choose the one that suits your budget best and which produces better as well as consistent quality of coffee. It is the quality of coffee that a particular commercial espresso machine can give which will decide the issue of whether to buy it or not. You should also make sure that it does not need too much fine tuning to meet customer’s demands. You can find out more about commercial espresso machines and espresso coffee at http://www.bestespressocoffeemachines.com
The demand for good quality coffee that is available instantly is what drives big commercial espresso machine makers into incorporating into their products just such features. So, before you choose one particular machine make sure that you find that the time it takes to make the espresso fits in with your general needs, and you won’t find yourself spending a lot of time and money on maintenance and that its operations are easy to perform, and the taste of the espresso is consistent and uniform.
Good espresso is what drives in customers to coffee shops and cafes and so these outlets should have the very best commercial espresso machines such as those made by Saeco to keep the customers satisfied and coming back over and over again.

”Good espresso will drive any good cafe, combined that with your personality and the environment will give your own cafe the edge”

Extracting your own cafe from the low fat decafe soy mocha of the caffeine strip
The best thing to come out of America, since the big mac! Starbucks coffee chain has inialated local cafes throughout the world. It seems to be the most infectious outbreak since influenza, well maybe not that serious. For the most, owning a commercial espresso machine is a life long passion to produce a golden stream of addictive caffeine. Your local cafe is as much a part the the city-scape as a french patisserie, english chippy or an american hot dog stand. As much as the product they sell it is more than likely to be the people behind the the counter that draw you back time after time to purchase the same product, time and time again.
If your thinking of starting up your own cafe , then think again… think again of your business plan, think again of your location, and think again of the passion you must bring to your commercial espresso machine. Beyond that you will be another target for that stylised sea erchant with two tails, who couldn’t drink coffee anyway cos she lives underwater. Don’t fear what the big lady might do, because they are gonna do it with or without your consent. After i read an article i found in the Dallas news.com , having the coffee queen next door isn’t such a bad thing after all, if anything it highlights the need to have your enemies close by.
Extracting the gold now, refers to the qualities you bring to your own cafe, it’s decor, the environment, the conversation, the people who frequent your cafe. and of course the golden mix of caffeine you extract from your commercial espresso machine.
In the article it talks of the profit margins one can make in the coffee industry
“As coffee consultant Dan Cox explained: “You can’t do better than a cup of coffee for profit. It’s insanity. A cup of coffee costs 16 cents. Once you add in labor and overhead, you’re still charging a 400 percent markup – not bad! Where else can you do that?”
Not bad really for doing something you enjoy, meeting your locals and generally having a good laugh!
would be good to hear your thoughts
